I’m honoured to be part of this new anthology Singing Off the Grid/Chanter Hors Piste, a compelling retrospective exploring the journey of innovative sound artist, choral director, and community advocate Kathy Kennedy . My essay “Singing as Social Engagement: How Bodies and Buildings Intersect in Kathy Kennedy’s Sonic Choreographies” is featured alongside texts by Katie Russell, Nicola Oddy and an audio essay by Martín Rodriguez. The included pieces address ongoing themes in Kennedy’s oeuvre, such as early feminism, acoustic ecology, engagement with technology, and activism. With links to many audiovisual works by Kennedy as well, Singing Off the Grid celebrates a life dedicated to the power of sound to connect, transform, and inspire communities.
