Over many years of producing performances for all manner of contexts, occasionally these works become exhibitions. And publications. As writing, drawing, photography and film have documented various facets of my projects these material makings have transformed performative actions into a second stage of work.

Prix Powerhouse Exhibition
(Nov-Dec 2018)
La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse, two-person exhibition, Montreal, QC
“Ceci n’est pas une exposition.” In being offered an exhibition in conjunction with the Prix Powerhouse (received alongside Helena Martin Franco), it made more sense for me to engage the space with performative work. Nonetheless, performance documentation seemed appropriate, and a selection of images additionally offered a portrait of my artistic trajectory.

Roadside Attractions (Hull) Revisited
(June 2018)
Galerie UQO, Tout contexte est art group exhibition, Gatineau QC
Revisiting a piece from a decade earlier (Roadside Attractions, Hull), curator Jean-Michel Quirion invited me to partake in his performative exhibition, where the group of artists in question reconsidered the gallery space as another kind of “art work.” Durational performative moments punctuated my three-screen projection.

Historias de Fantasmas / Ghost Stories
(Apr-May 2018)
Instituto Cultural de México/Espacio Mexico Montreal, solo exhibition, Montreal, QC
Emerging from my residency in Real del Monte, a former mining town in Hidalgo, Mexico, floating filmy surfaces poetically rendered my experiences of “unexpected” meetings; elements of being in place/being in relationship that often sit at the intersection of im/perception.

This City, My Love (mapping the unspectacular in Saint John)
(Mar-May 2014)
The City of Saint John Art Gallery, solo exhibition, Saint John, NB
In a second stage of a residence carried out a year earlier, I constructed an unconventional map of human encounters. A depiction of emotional landscapes via photography, field notes, drawings, artifacts, and film, the exhibition recalls my visits, and reconstitutes this city out of the memories that were recounted to me.

FatherWork – MonTravail
(Nov 2010-Mar 2012)
3e impérial, off-site solo exhibition, Granby, QC
A dialogue with a young artist, William Poulin, developed into a poetic parallel between the archetypal figure of the traveling salesman and that of the nomadic artist – between my father’s life and my own. In front of the camera, being me (and my dad), the resulting images were presented in an off-site exhibition.

Roadside Attractions: From A to B and Back Again
(Jul-Aug, 2010)
PAVED Arts, solo exhibition, Saskatoon, SK
Having brought my process of site-specific micro-actions for the camera to several cities and towns in Canada and abroad (see “Roadside Attractions”), an installation of video projection, single channel video and photo portrayed the culmination of this series of meditative micro-interventions carried out since 2008.

Stuff
(Mar-April 2010)
Tenderpixel Gallery, collaborative solo exhibition, London, UK
In collaboration with sound artist Christian Richer, we produced an evolving participatory installation of drawings and ambient aural textures. Visitors brought objects of meaning that were discussed while we sketched, from which Christian created atmospheric tape loops that accompanied the collection of drawings.

(Being) One Thing at a Time
(Jan-Feb 2010)
Galerie Corrid’Art Sylviane Poirier, solo exhibition, Montreal, QC
The (Being) photo series portrays the traces of momentarily activated – and at times even politicized – public spaces. Emerging out of public actions carried out in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, and St-John’s, the ensemble of pictures make up a narrative that recontextualizes the work across time and space.
