Spoken Word + Broken Song

I initially began performing through stage-based works, presenting stories and songs about love, hurt, wonder, being, and being present. The stage is a seductive yet terrifying space, where I’ve experienced intense connection, vulnerability and colossal failures that became some of my most important performance moments.

A Short Presentation About Nothing
(April 2017)

Casa del Popolo, Mile End Poets’ Festival, Montreal, QC

It performs as it sounds. During this venerable festival, I proposed a recap on my ruminations around my project of “Doing Nothing” via Winnie-the-Pooh, Billy Preston, and an interminable scroll of paper unfurled a foot above my head.

The Capital of Plastic Daffodils
(Feb 2009)

Sala Rossa, Festival Voix d’Amériques, Montreal, QC

Warbling and naïve, one keyboard briefly became a band. My songs took on a new life with the help of Nicolas Lê Quang (bass, keyboards, f/x, vocals), Christian Richer (electric guitar, laptop, f/x, vocals), Simon Heller (flute, vocals), and Nicolas Gouin (drums & vocals). Deranged ditties for adult children, and as quirky as ever.

The original warbling and naïve off-kilter ditties for adult children in limbo. These badly played minimal, absurd and mournful pieces were performed in several events in Montreal between 2004-2007 and also appeared at festivals in Brussels (2004); Durham, ON (2005); St. John’s NL (2005) and Melbourne (2007).

This hour-long solo show chronicled personal and institutional relationships to uncover connections and contradictions within them, as related to many parts of one’s “self.” Performed in Montreal (1998, 2000); Victoria and Richmond, BC (1999); Sardinia (2000); Ottawa (2000); Brooklyn (2002), and Melbourne (2003).
